Took Keflex for bacterial infection of leg after broken patella and road rash. Injury caused great pain in calf and knee and infection caused leg to swell and throb. Swelling subsided but nerve pain in calf and foot is bad. Side effects included tiredness, dizziness, lack of appetite, minor itching. Dark stools appeared after day 7 of treatment; had been pale earlier in treatment. Scanned for DVT in calf, was negative. Have mild cirrhosis; no alcohol use for two years. Will monitor side effects including stools after completion of treatment. Musccle/joint pain also a side effect.Read More Read Less

I have cellulitis and prescribed the generic keflex 500mg capsules four times a day for ten days. I'm on day 6 and as for side effects, I've had headaches, dizziness, tiredness and abdominal pain. The doctor told I might experience these side effects and told me if I develop a rash, feel numbness, or have trouble breathing to go the hospital right away. It's working very well for me, I can see it healing each time I check. :)

This medication a very bad itchy rash, stopped taking meds on day 3 and rash is still bad after 10

The nurse practitioner prescribed this medicine for me for a skin infection. She prescribed 500 mg, 4 times a day for 7 days. I have never taken any antibiotic 4 times a day, so I was a little surprised. About 2 days after I started this medicine, my skin infection started clearing up and healing. The most noticeable side effect has been fatigue. I have felt so tired! I don't know if this is because of the high dosage or if it is a general side effect of the medicine. Was prescribed this med for an infected ingrown toenail. Took the med for 1 week(3xdaily).infection cleared up in weeks time. 2 weeks later broke out with rash that spread quickly over my torso.My Dr. Confirmed it was allergic reaction to the antibiotic that can occur 2 wks post treatment. Needless to say it is on my do not use this med. again list.

I had an infection in a piercing that was over a year old follow a trauma to the area. My range of motion was limited significantly as a result. within 24 hours of starting the antibiotic the infection was rapidly clearing and range of motion returning.

My optometrist prescribed 500mg, one cap by mouth four times daily for 7 days, to treat Blepharitis. I had tried eye washes and warm compresses to no avail. After taking the Keflex, I started having ringing/thumping in my ears, tiredness, confusion / forgetfulness, joint pain and heart rate changes. Dentist prescribed 500 mg three times a day for 10 days for a nasty absess in a tooth/gum which resulted in severe pain and swelling. The major pain was literally relieved overnight and was gone as was the swelling within 72 hours. Did continue for the prescribed 10 days. No noticible side effects. This has been my go to drug for dental issues for years. It's cheap, it works!

I used this medication after a dental bone graft. I did have nausea and slight itching and I suddenly developed a urethral hernia. I have a feeling it is connected. However, I took it because bacterial infection after a dental bone graft is no fun and you can die. I was not allergic and although I HATE drugs with a passion, there is a usefulness to this particular one. Sorry for the people who experience really negative effects.

Diagnosed with Uti, previously given sulfamethazole, had a reaction so they switched me to Cipro. No good with Cipro - caused joint pain and slight swelling after only ONE dose. Two er visits later i'm given Macrobid which Ive taken before without any side effects. Day 7 on Macrobid broke out in hives, and tested positve for UTI still. WTF?? So now just got prescribed Keflex. Sure hope this works. Oh also on 5 days worth of steroids for the knarly hives. Otherwise on Macrobid didnt feel nauseous or diahhrea. Moderate to Severe abdominal pain (like pain that I had when having a baby) that started five days after starting it and lasted for three days until I realized what was making it and quit taking it. Terrible gas, belching, farting, vomiting, diarrhea, blood in stool, chills, ache in upper jaw and face/sinuses. I do not usually have a reaction to meds, but this was terrible.

i had the liquid version of this prescribed to me after i had surgery and my mouth wired shut for a broken jaw. medicine was prescribed to prevent infection after surgery upon release from hospital. medicine had a good strawberry flavor to it. had it prescribed in liquid since i was unable to open my mouth since it was wired shut.did not experience any side effects from it . came in the pink color liquid. if i am ever prescribed this again i will get it in the liquid. love the strawberry flavor. flavor is enhanced when refrigerated.Read More Read Less

I am pregnant in my first trimester and my doctor gave me keflex for strep throat. My strep was gone within 3 days. Don't really know if it caused any side effects because I constantly feel the side effects it would cause anyways (being pregnant and all). But otherwise, I didn't have a single problem and I am now on it again to treat a UTI so we'll see how it goes with that.

I have recurrent UTIs and use this for them. When using this; I suggest to all that they use Florestor (a non-bacterial Pro-biotic) which will help provide good flora in the gut. This Keflex will kill off all the good bactria and you'll need to resupply. After finishing this, then use a bacterial Pro-biotic to regain normal bowels again.

Given keflex after breast cancer surgery while I had drains in. Within 24 hrs. I began having severe bm's, severe exhaustion, headache, joint pains, dizziness, and broke out in blisters around the drain sights. I am allergic to PCN so I was concerned when I was put on this. My Dr. felt the side effects would be minimum compared to keeping infection out of the drain sights. NOT! I will never allow myself to take this medication again or be prescribed this medication. I will inform the surgeon of the side effects as well as my primary care. Nothing like being sick while you're trying to heal from surgery.If you are allergic to PCN, a doctor should respect that and not prescribe a medication that is a cousin of PCN, regardless of the considered benefits. I was prescribed Keflex (500mg) after I had shoulder surgery. At day 8, I began having stomach cramps, chills, low grade fever, and diarrhea. All symptoms except diarrhea subsided after discontinuing use, as advised by my physician. Diarrhea continued for one additional day. However, bowels have not returned to normal (3 days after stopping).

The majority of reviews I've seen for this drug are negative so I thought I would post a positive one. For 18 months now I have been getting skin abscessed behind both of my ears. I have been on Clindamycin, Doxycycline, Augmentin, Bactrim, and Keflex. Keflex is by far my favorite. Whenever my doctor asks me which one I would prefer taking, I always say Keflex. I take 500mg 3x a day, with or without food. I am currently taking another 10 day dose of Keflex. I am on day 3 and the abscess is already reducing. I have never had one side effect from this drug. I also recommend supplementing a high quality probiotic during and after the use of any antibiotics - it can help reduce the most common symptoms of antibiotics like diarrhea. had a ingrown toe infection. Medicine made me sick, Itching of the hands. After six days of not taking the medication, the hands still itched

I was given the generic version of Keflex after having surgery to remove an oily cyst. I took the medicine for two days and then suddenly developed a urinary problem that I couldn't go and finally I could go but it was very weak stream and painful. This continued for 4 days (weekend) and I visited my Urologist who suspected prostate enlargement problems. He scheduled me for a scope procedure to check the prostate. However on the 6th day the problems disappeared and everything back to normal. The scope procedure was cancelled. I have reported the negative reaction to my Dermatologist.Read More Read Less
