I began taking Crestor (10 mg) in June. My cholesterol level dropped from 235 to 135 in four months. However, I began experiencing hip and knee pain. It became painful to walk, and the pain was so great I was having difficulty sleeping a night. Aleve and Tylenol Arthritis didn't totally eliminate the pain. Overall, my quality of life has been significantly effected. My doctor also takes Cr...

My doctor prescribed Crestor two weeks ago, as other statins had failed to achieve the results she wanted, and I have survived two heart attacks. Within two days, I started to have crushing chest pain, anxiety, sweating and shortness of breath - panic attacks. I didn't put two and two together so I stayed on it. I then realized that as soon as I was in direct sunlight (I live in Spain) it triggered a panic attack; my husband literally had to drag me into a shop in an outdoor mall because the instant I was in the sun I had complete seizures in my chest cavity, sweating, couldn't breathe - it was terrifying. We finally googled photosensitivity and Crestor and the pieces fell into place. I have now been off of the drug for 8 days, was on it for only 14. I can now go in the sun without having a muscular attack, but I am still having the odd panic attack. I am hoping the longer it is out of my system the less and less this will be. I ended up in the hospital while on the Crestor for a suspected heart attack, but the enzymes were normal - and nobody clued in, as they did have my full meds list. I spoke to my GP the following week, and she was adamant that I go back on the Crestor. I steadfastly refused and am going to find myself another doctor. I am concerned that there is permanent damage and am so so hopeful that there is not, but these attacks still happen 8 days off of it. Please beware of this drug, I think it's the probably one of the worst things I've ever taken, and obviously they're covering up the side effects. Would love to speak to others who have had the same experience.Read More Read Less

Women note : Iâ??m posting a warning that Crestor gave me serious vulvar irritation diagnosed by a skin specialist after weeks of suffering. Healthmagic is carrying erroneous replies about this potential if rare side effect. No info on crestor carried a warning about this at the time. Reducing the dose did not help either.

Gradually experienced joint and muscle paint. Could not stand the join pain and saw my doctor who recommended I stop taking Crestor to see if pain stops. After 2 days of not taking this statin I pleased to say its 80% improved. This statin may work for some but not for me.

On advice of my physician I started to ease in with a half dose. Within a couple weeks of taking the full dose, I developed knee pain so severe there were times I couldn't walk. A cortisone shot brought only a few days relief. I failed to stop taking it immediately because due to easing in, I thought I was tolerating it. After stopping it the symptoms have mostly abated, but after two months sometimes they recur without warning. I fear I may have permanent joint damage. I believe this is a dangerous drug and should be pulled from the market. Like many other patients, I have a doctor who is mostly unconcerned about side effects.Read More Read Less

P.A. insisted I take it. I became so lethargic I barely had the energy to get off the couch and do what I had to do to function living alone. My friend suggested I stop it and I did. Within days I gained at least 50% additional energy and seem to have less muscle pain. If I die of high cholesterol, at least I'll feel like I was actually alive while living without it. Watch out for the side effects!

Have been on generic form of Crestor for a week and half and had to stop due to constant muscle pain in my legs. Same side effect occured a few years back when I tried a different statin.

I have tolerated crestor really well. I'm sorry for all the people who have had bad experiences. That is truly awful. I have been very fortunate in my experience. My cardiologist prescribed this at 40mg/day due to high cholesterol and high lipoprotein-a. I plan to continue taking it at his direction indefinitely as this is really the only thing that can be done for my condition that hasn't already been tried. I am happy with crestor.

My husband has been taking this for over a year and his cholesterol only dropped a few points. He has been more irritable since starting Crestor and he constantly complains of muscle pains, stomach upset and bad gas. This week he's been nauseated for a week and diarrhea. And he had a blower back spasm come out of nowhere. I have been trying to get him to talk to his doctor about all of this, but he acts like I'm trying to pull the plug on him. He's only 51 and he now takes naps all the time and is always tired.Read More Read Less

I was on this about 120 days and my lipid levels were very good.(LDL at 60).One morning I got up and found I could put no weight on my right leg. Went to urgent care, did xrays, and nothing was found. Dr. found nothing wrong and said "stuff happens"I knew Crestor was powerful so I stopped and overnight I was able to walk again. Go figure. I may try red rice yeast now.

Was taking Pravastatin for several years, apo b-100 test came out near high end of recommended range so doctor had me switch to Crestor. Shortly after that began feeling hip joint pain. 3 months later cholesterol had dropped to lower end of the range but my hip was still bothering me and I had begun to feel stiffness in the fingers of my left hand. Doctor said he didn't think joint issues were a common side effect of the medicine so I agreed to continue for 3 more months. One month later, went on a 10-day ski trip but misplaced medications. Hip pain and hand stiffness went away. Returned and have been back on Crestor for a week, hip pain and stiffness back, worse than ever. I tried Lipitor years ago but had issues with fatigue and muscle pain, so tried the pravastatin. Have never had noticeable side effects with pravastatin so will go back to that. Not going to warn anybody off of Crestor as it seems to be very effective in controlling cholesterol and not everyone will experience the same, or any, side effects. It was/is very important to me that I found out that others shared my specific symptoms - Thank you, to all of you and this website!Read More Read Less

I have been on CRESTOR for almost 3 months now. I started having severe pain in my right leg and shoulder almost immediately. Because I was diagnosed with MS in 2007, I thought I might be having a relapse or a reaction to my new MS injection. I had been so used to dealing with my MS that I lost sight of the new drug and its side affects. Definitely my bad! I am seeing my cardiologist tomorrow and telling him I am NO longer taking this drug and pray there is no permanent damage.

One month after hip replacement surgery I developed severe pain in the knee cap area, tendons and muscles and swelling in my shins. One month later I was going down the stairs on my butt because pain was to too intense in my knees. After 15 blood tests, x-rays, cortisone injection, MRI, Nothing showed any problems in my knees. Surgeon and rheumatologist were baffled, The surgeon realized I was on Crestor, told me to stop it immediately, Statins are POISON and should be banned. They cause more problems than the solve. It's only been a week and I'm feeling a bit better, it will take time as long as no permanent damage has been done. Do not take statin medications, they will hurt you! There are alternatives.Read More Read Less

I have been on this statin for 5 weeks. about 2 weeks ago I started to experience an unpleasant taste/smell in my mouth. Has anyone else experienced this? I take a few other meds for years but nothing like this odd taste/smell before. No other side effects have been noticed to date.

I took Lipitor for 20 years but asked my doctor for a new Rx when triglycerides spiked. Crestor lowered my level to a safe zone in less than three months. No side effects.
