I have been taking Valium for a little over 20 years for insomnia, anxiety and PTSD. I take 5mg in the evening and 2.5 mg (1/2 tablet) as needed during the day. It works great, no side effects. I have stopped taking for brief periods and didnâ??t suffer withdrawal symptoms. I believe this is an effective medication, it helps me function and takes away the horrible feeling that is extreme anxiety. ...
I have been using Valium for almost 3 years, but I also tried Zanex for about 6 months. I preferred the Zanex, but I didn't want to get addicted. The Valium doesn't really help anymore. So I don't know what to do. I have Buspar as well, but it doesn't work at all. I'm very interested in finding out what I can do about this. I'm very interested to find out. I have tried to talk to my doctor and he ...

This medication is the devil. I had severe depression for months as a side effect of coming off of it. It causes tolerance very quickly.

I've been on all of the benzos and Valium is not only the most effective it is the safest and easiest to come off of if you choose to do so. This is an oldie but goodie! Does the job and does it quickly :)

I have S.O.D. sphincter of oddi dysfunction and stumbled upon this medication given to me to relax for treatments. It is the ONLY med that helps this horrible dysfunction and painful epigastric distress that it causes.

I take 5mg Valium as a PRN, for Anxiety caused by my severe OCD. I usually only take it when I want to sleep though, because I havent had a panic attack in a while. I have tried all the benzos (ativan, xanax, KLonopin..etc) And this is the "Lightest" one, but also lasts the longest, and does not cause a high effect like Xanax or Klonopin. Its an old drug. That fact makes me more at ease with it.

I had severe muscle spasm's were not and nerve pain. Many pain prescription's tried did not help and had multiple side effects. I have taken this medication for over thirty years and not increased the dose once. It still works for nerve pain, muscle spasm's and anxiety with no side effects. I am very grateful that my doctor agrees that this medicine is safer than most other pain medicines. The only side effect is that it is indeed habit forming like many other pain medications but works better with less side effects. Read More Read Less

I do not like this drug. It does not seem to work for anxiety and at times seems to make is worse for me. I do not like how it "relaxes" the body. It makes me feel hungover the next day. Don't take it, ask for something else.

Was prescribed Valium (Diazepam) just prior to & continued after Spinal Fusion Surgery (for about 3 years by my surgeon & frmr pain mgmt center (in another state). I had to find a new pain mgmt doc bc I moved from another state. During the search for a new doc sadly had to visit the ED in new state a few times for meds that I needed. Even The docs in new state ED prescribed the Valium for my muscle spasms bc the docs knew I could not stop them in add it made a huge diff in my discomfort. The Valium used in conj w pain med would bring my pain from 10 to a 4 or 5. Within few mins I would feel so much better. So I have been seeing a new pain mgmt doc in my new state for about 5 months however, he DOES NOT LISTEN to me or my concerns. HE REFUSES TO PRESCRIBE MY VALIUM. I leave his office every month crying bc the pain is so bad. He'll give me valium just prior to steroid injections but he still refuses to give me a script for the Valium. He believes that Valium is used only for a gen Anesthesia! And after 2 more injects 2 wks ago I asked yet again - his response (thru his nurse) was "Ive had this conversation with her many times & I will not give her Valium." "his nurse also said Valium is not used for pain" (of course we all k this is untrue) I immed cried, told the nurse to let him know that if God Forbid anything should happen that he cannot cont his med practice & he ends up in chronic pain as w me & other patients I bet he'll be expected his physician to listen to him. Just bc my doc is 'conservative' it is very ignorant & uncaring of him to ignore me & my pain & refuse to continue one of my meds (Valium) that my prev docs were prescribing to me. He only gives me something for the main phys pain, nothing else. Im going to my GP tm to discuss - perhaps she can help or work as a liason. I may have to find a new doc. The muscle spasms are getting so bad it hurts to breathe. To all others trying to cope w post surg pain my prayers go out to you & good luck.Read More Read Less

Sure, there's plenty of newer, 'more powerful' benzodiazepines that've been introduced in the past 30 years (e.g., Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin)-- I've tried many of them -- but diazepam (Valium) is still the best. And safest. Here's why: 1). It's relaxing & uplifting in the most mild way. It doesn't cause wacky behavior nor give the appearance that the user is 'on something'. 2). It's long acting. You don't need to cling to a pill bottle all day. One small dose gives all-day benefit. 3.) It doesn't cause mental depression, like so many minor tranqilizers do. I like to take a 5 mg. pill in the morning, before work. It 'loosens me up', making that tense pre-workday mood disappear. It helps me organize myself, in a cheerful way. That's the best way I can describe it. I don't take another until the next morning. And many times I don't even need to do that. Diazepam the very best of the benzodiazepines and minor tranquilizers. Speaking from experience.Read More Read Less

I was on 30 mg of Tranxene daily. The doctor switched me to 20mg of diazepam. I really can't tell the difference. I've been on benzos so long, I'm definitely addicted and will have to take them the rest of my life or suffer the withdrawals. This combined with 150mg of Effexor keep my anxiety at bay.

Used it for post spinal surgery and discovered that hip spasm created a great deal of pain for me until I was provided a 5 mg dose. I take half the dose every day so far unless severe pain prohibits my ability to function so I take a full dose.
