Gerber Recalls Organic Cereals

Potential Choking Hazard Spurs Recall of Gerber Organic Rice Cereal and Gerber Organic Oatmeal Cereal

July 16, 2007 -- Gerber Products Company has voluntarily recalled all packages of Gerber Organic Rice Cereal and Gerber Organic Oatmeal Cereal due to a potential choking risk.

A limited quantity of those products may contain lumps of cereal, which do not dissolve in water or milk and pose a potential choking hazard, according to a Gerber news release.

Gerber states that it has received choking complaints, but no reports of injury. The FDA is aware of the recall, Gerber notes.

Gerber Organic Rice Cereal and Gerber Organic Oatmeal Cereal have been distributed in the U.S. (including Puerto Rico) and the Caribbean.

Gerber advises consumers who have Gerber Organic Rice or Gerber Organic Oatmeal cereal not to use those products. Consumers should call the Gerber Parents Resource Center at (800) 443-7237 or (231) 928-3000 to return the product and receive a full refund.

Gerber Organic Rice Cereal and Gerber Organic Oatmeal Cereal are sold in 8-ounce boxes.

Gerber is recalling all packages and all codes of those two cereals. Gerber Organic Rice UPC Code is 15000 12504. Gerber Organic Oatmeal UPC Code is 15000 12502. These numbers can be found on the bottom right side of the box.

No other Gerber products are involved in the recall.
