Oct. 12, 2007 -- J.C. Penney is recalling 70,400 toys due to lead paint.
Here is the J.C. Penney toy recall list:
- About 49,000 Disney Deluxe Winnie-the-Pooh 23-Piece Play Sets. This recall is due to lead paint on the surface of the play set, which consists of 23 pieces including a white or black baby doll and assorted Winnie-the-Pooh themed items such as a diaper bag, blanket, playpen, high chair, swing, stroller, and carrying bags. The play sets were made in China.
- About 19,000 Deluxe Wood Art Sets. This recall is due to lead paint on the outside of the wooden box that holds several pull-out trays containing 177 different art items, including paints and brushes. The art sets were made in Taiwan and Vietnam.
- About 2,400 Breyer Stirrup Ornaments. This recall is due to lead paint on the surface of the stirrup-shaped ornament that includes a blue ribbon, a model of a white prancing horse, and "2006" stamped on the rim of the ornament. The ornaments were made in China.
Lead poisoning can permanently harm children, but it typically doesn't happen overnight. No injuries have been reported with toys included in the J.C. Penney toy recall.
However, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) advises consumers to take the toys away from children immediately and return the recalled products to a J.C. Penney store for a full refund.
