There are a few vaccines that children get that can help protect against pneumonia. Pneumonia is an infection in the lungs, and it can be caused by numerous bacteria and viruses. So, babies get a pneumococcal vaccine, which helps protect against pneumococcal pneumonia. They also get a Hib vaccine, which helps protecting, and it's another type of bacterial pneumonia. There is a pneumonia vaccine also for adults, and in some cases we give it to children or teenagers who have chronic diseases, or who might be more susceptible to getting a serious pneumonia.
