Hello, I have been using Synthroid for over ten years and find it the best to use. I have never had my dose increased as I follow the SPECIFIC directions for use. Take it at the same time every day (for me, 5 A.M.!)and on an empty stomach--for one hour. I have found, my morning coffee is fine with no cream, or half and half ; a food. I tried the generic form and it did not have the same affect...

Taking it for 10 years since my radioactive iodine tx with no problems except some thining hair. Kept thyroid levels in check. Unbeknownst to me meds were exchanged for generic (Insurance company requirement) and at next MD APPT my thyroid levels were very low. It was then revealed they had exchanged my Synthroid for generic. Once I went back to name brand everything improved.

Been taking this in varied doses for about 8 years. 3 months ago TSH was 0.001 about dropped off the chart, they changed dose from 88 to 50 and in 60 days it spiked to 6.7. The last few years the TSH levels are all over the lot. I am tired, crabby, weight went way up but when the dose was changed to 50 I managed to drop 20 pounds with a lot of very serious low carb eating. Hair fell out like crazy plus eyebrows

I was prescribed Synthroid after my thyroid surgery. I have been taking it since January. So far I have been doing great. My only complaint is I am still experiencing hair loss and weight gain.

I was put on synthroid 1 yr. after telling my Endocrinologist (he was taking care of my type 1 diabetes) that I think I have low thyroid (it runs in my family). After a year he finally tested my TSH which was high and put me on Synthroid. My TSH came back fine but I told him my hair was still thinning, my nails were still brittle, my stomach was still swollen & I got every bug that was within 100 miles of me. I also developed total exhaustion and only left the house for doctor appointments. I went from 103lbs. to130lbs. He put me on a higher dose and switched me to Levothyroxine (generic for synthroid) which caused rash & itching on face, then on rest of body, felt like a ball in my throat & sore throat, more hair falling out & nails more brittle. My doctor told me to keep taking the generic. I went to my primary physician and he said we will keep changing the medicine until we find one that works. I’m hopeful now and wish I had switched doctors 6 yrs. ago.Read More Read Less

I tried Levothyroxine 25 mcg, but had bad side effects, so my doctor prescribed Synthroid 25 mcg to see if I would do better. I was on it for two months and felt okay, but then the exact same symptoms that I felt on Levothyroxine showed up. It was a very bad headache on my left side of the head, usually behind the eye, and also a pain in my left side under the breast, and heart palpitations, fluttering, and beating really hard at times too. I had an x ray when on Levothyroxine for that pain in my side, but nothing showed in the x-ray. I had no idea it was because of the drug. I only connected the dots when I had the exact same pain when on Synthroid. Besides those symptoms, I felt really ill, like my whole body was shutting down, sensitivity to sound and light, couldn't handle any stimulation or stress. I felt like I was shaking or having tremors on the inside like I was standing on one foot all day, like the exertion of standing on one foot, I felt like I was doing that all day. That feeling was the worst of all the symptoms. The day I stopped taking Synthroid, the tremor, and shaking feeling on the inside, and pain on left side under the rib cage went right away. and I my headache and heart palpitations subsided greatly the day I stopped taking it, but took two weeks to completely go away, but it faded a lot each day. I took Synthroid for a week after feeling the headache and heart issues, but it wasn't getting any better, it was getting worse by the day to be next to intolerable. I saw a clear improvement each day since I have stopped taking it. Each day better than the next. While on Levothyroxine, I suffered for much longer because I didn't realize I was so sick because of the drug. I went to get x rays, got blood work done, etc. The symptoms on Levo crept up on me more slowly than while on Synthroid so it took me more by surprise.Read More Read Less

Even thought my tiredness is going away. I am having mini seizures, headaches, dizziness and joint pain. I have been taking the name brand since aug. of 2016 and that is how long the seizures and others has been happening. Talk to dr she keep saying not thyroid or medication related.

I have been on Synthroid for about 11 years, and as others have stated, weight gain from no where no matter how much I work out, the massive change in diet. I too have mood swings from highly irritated to depression with tears, I am always tired no matter how much rest I get. I would like to stop taking this drug as well but I have also found out that the natural option NP Thyroid by Acella is not that good.

I was on this thyroid medication for several years, but was always dead tired by mid afternoon, and always had a headache..happened to forget to take the medication for a few days, and noticed I was starting to feel better! I then chose to not take it anymore, I felt so much better, and was not as moody and depressed, neither was I sleepwalking in the afternoon. My numbers were still off on the blood work, so I went to my Chiropractor who suggested taking beef thyroid, so that is what I am doing. I feel fantastic going on a year now! Get off the synthetic drug and go natural.Read More Read Less

Like another user said I have only on Levothyroxine for about two weeks and I know it's supposed to take a couple of weeks to begin to work, but I cannot handle the side effects. I would be dizzy for most of the day after taking it and then headaches raging headaches would begin. They were horrible - and I'm not one to complain about pain - but they were to the point that I thought I needed to go to the ER. Then after a few days I noticed that I was swelling, particularly in my abdomen. I checked the scale and was shocked to see that I was seven pounds heavier, and it had to be all water because I didn't change my diet or exercise in that time. The worst though and what put me over the edge were the mental side effects. I take antidepressants and was hoping that having treatment for my thyroid would make it so that I wouldn't need to take them but this medication has made it worse. I swung between being furious to crying to obsessively worrying. The scariest part though and the reason I stopped taking the medication is that I'd been having suicidal idealization where I felt so overwhelmed between my mental issues and now these physical ones that I thought it would be better to end it all rather than have to keep trying new medications and dealing with side effects like this. I'm hoping another medication is a fit for me because I'm never touching this one agian.Read More Read Less

I have only on Levothyroxine for about a week. I know that you are supposed to be on this drug for a couple of weeks for this to really take effect. The side effects have pushed me over the edge. I would have rage out-burts, I would burst into tears, feel like things weren't real (for example, be picking fights with my boyfriend over the smallest things because I keep thinking he is going to break up with me. And when I bring it up he keeps saying no he isn't, we have plans to get married, we live together and are normally very happy), start to feel suicidal, feel extremely panicky, my chest would start to pound at points, I couldn't lay on my side because it would cause me chest pain, give me pounding migraines. I literally felt like I was going insane and losing my personality. I also got extreme diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth. Pretty much everything. I feel so hopeless.... I don't know what I can do... I am taking this in the morning with a glass of water and then I wait an hour before consuming anything further. Read More Read Less

I had horrible reactions to this drug: severe itching, chest pains, palpitations, high blood pressure, and worst of all, irritability and rage. Do yourself a favor and if something is causing you major problems and the doctor tells you to keep taking it, find a new doctor! Feeling much better since I stopped taking this horrible drug.

I have been on Synthroid for approximately eight years. Now I went to pick it up at the pharmacy, only to find out that the cost for three months went from $27.99 to $55.99 for one month. This is ridiculous. I was tried on levothyroxine And it did not work at all for me. My medicines are keeping me from having the retirement that I always wanted and deserved. I spent 37 years as an RN. What the drug companies are doing is nothing less than corporate greed.

After trying the generic levothyroxine and getting headaches which is not normal for me, my doctor changed to synthroid - no problems. I seem to have more energy, no bad side effects.

I am taking Levothyroxine, which is the generic of Synthroid. Before starting this medicine, I would feel like I was going to cry for no good reason. I put on weight for the first time in my life. That has not been a good thing for me. Also, any little thing irriated me-I would get angry over nothing. Since starting treatment, which is for two weeks now, I no longer go into depressive states, have more energy, can think better and feel more up. The only two complaints, I have are, I have a much larger appetite and I have some mouth dryness. For the first few days, I had a very slight headache. At first, I followed my Dr's instructions, which was to take it as soon as I got up and not eat for an hr. But then, I changed it to taking it before bed, on an empty stomach. Since I was going to be hungry, I went back to taking it when I wake up. I will continue to take this since I've had, mainly, a positive experience with it. If anything changes, I will update my results.Read More Read Less
